After Asilomar Mark

When I came back from Asilomar, (see my adventures in Asilomar 2013 on my Blog) I was determined to use what was left of the yard of Carlene Keller's mottled hand dyed fabric (email her at  carlenekeller@mac.com) to make another Esterita Austin (see esteritaaustin.com) type portrait of Mark!  I wanted to start from scratch and make a new pattern that followed more closely the structure of his jaw, the slant of his Asian eyes, and  his slender and less pointed nose!  This was the result - "After Asilomar Mark."   In May 2015 I changed the eyes - inserted a photo below of the old eyes...obviously, this quilt is still a work in progress…as I learn to do each step a little better.

What I have to remember here is that I am no painter - and yet, it looks amazingly like Mark.    It's not done yet and far from perfect - but I put these up for a friend to see my progress who lives in another state!  I included some close-ups below along with a comparison of this quilt to the one I did in Asilomar.
