Lew's Retirement Quilt

Image 1

It's April of 2014 and my friend Lew is retiring.  He lives half the year in Kona, Hawaii.  In his career as a State Administrator, while he was Chief Deputy Director of the Department of Managed Health Care, he hired me as an attorney, twice.  First, when he gave my resume to the Chief of the Licensing  Division and probably "suggested” to him that he should hire me, which he did during the interview, and second, when he told the Deputy Director of the Office of Provider Oversight that I was looking for a job and, coincidentally, that man called within a week to hire me.  Lew either has magic powers or loads of clout.  I think it's both!

Anyway, I thanked him for the first hire with a quilt of small Hawaiian shirts, folded origami style.  He had it framed in Koa wood and bolted to the wall of his Kona apartment which he rents out when they are not in residence.  I had never thanked him for the second job.  I finally will, with this second quilt.  It is a pineapple design made with Hawaiian fabrics and quilted with Hawaiian quilting.  My skills have improved since I made him the first quilt.  I placed the pineapples are on white background so that this second quilt will go well with the first quilt should he decide to keep them in the same room.  Hope he likes it!

Below is  a photo of Lew and me at work and a photo of the first quilt I made for him after he had it framed and hung up on the living room wall of his Kona apartment.
