Jane Dong is a quilt artist from Northern California. She is also a lawyer who practiced law under her maiden name - Jane Genco. In 1991, Jane was working as a Litigation Attorney for a local insurance defense firm when she became ill. While at home recovering from her illness, she began watching quilting shows on PBS and taught herself how to quilt.
Jane began by creating quilt art for her husband, Mark, to hang on the walls of his hair salon "Mark for Hair." (See markforhair.com) Later, she began creating wearable art in order to have beautiful quilted jackets for their frequent Wedding Anniversary cruises.
Many of Jane’s quilts were made specifically to hang in her office at work. Following her general litigation experience in the private sector, Jane returned to work for the State of California where she had previously worked as an analyst for thirteen (13) years. She practiced in the field of healthcare law; first, as a Staff Attorney for the Litigation Section of Department of Health Services, and then, in 2001 she moved to the Department of Managed Health Care (DMHC). She worked as a Corporations Counsel for the Division of Licensing until 2007, when she transferred to a Staff Counsel position for the Office of Provider Oversight. She retired in June of 2010. Jane now pursues her passion for quilting as time allows. To date, she has made over 55 quilted wearable vests/ jackets in addition to over 120 quilts. Most have been sold, donated or given away as gifts. Only a few remain in Jane’s private collection.
Most new projects will be featured in Jane's new Blog!
Some of the quilt photographs were taken by Jane's husband, Mark Dong, who is also a Wedding, Lifestyle Portrait and Travel photographer. (See markdongphotography.com)
